Grimsby Aquatics Swim Team were proud to be represented this year at both key indoor national events in the British Swimming calendar.
With qualifiers at both end-of-season indoor events, the first of which was the British Summer Championships 2019 which took place between 23 – 28 July at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.
Head Coach, Mark Sheldrick, was proud of the performances of Beth Hall (13) and Holly Williams (21) who both qualified in the top 24 in the UK in their events. Beth was competing for the first time at this top level for her age group in the 50m butterfly and experienced competitive swimmer Holly swam a lifetime best in the 200 butterfly final also competed in the 100m butterfly and 200m Individual Medley. Both girls put on peak season performances and made their club proud.
Grimsby had a record 7 qualifiers at the National Summer Meet (50m) 2019 which is Swim England’s biggest domestic swimming event of the year, which took place at Ponds Forge, Sheffield from 31 July – 4 August.
Competing in the 16 year old category Alex Woods achieved an outstanding gold medal winning performance in the 800m and gave very strong performances in the 1500m, 400m Individual Medley and 200m butterfly.
Sarah Hedges (13) smashed her personal best in the 50m breaststroke, breaking the 35 second barrier for the first time, to enter the final in pole position. Racing against the best in England she kept her nerve and swam even faster in the final to secure a gold medal.
Competing in the 14 year old category, Beth Hall qualifying for an amazing 5 events including the 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke. She gave some incredible performances to reach the finals in 200m Individual Medley, 100m and 50m freestyle events, finishing 50m in a personal best under 28 seconds.
Libby Munday, competing at her first National level competition in the 12/13 category, achieved an incredible silver medal in the 100m backstroke and just missed out on a medal in both the finals of 50 & 200m Backstroke.
Having swum the 200m and 100m butterfly events at British Nationals, Holly Williams was back in the pool at English Nationals in the 50m butterfly event, qualifying fastest in the 17 and over heats she swam a lifetime best in the final winning a fabulous silver medal. Holly’s commitment and focus to the sport is an inspiration to her team mates.
Competing in the 15 year old category, the club saw great swims from Eve Linton, competing in the 200m breaststroke and from Evie Barber who came 4th in the 800m freestyle and 8th in the 1500m events.

A further 7 swimmers have qualified for the National Open Water event being held in Rotherham.
The indoor Summer Meets forms part of a swimming competition structure in Great Britain whereby the top ranked swimmers in each event are invited to compete at the British Swimming Summer Championships. The next ranked swimmers at English affiliated club are invited to compete at the English Nationals.
The rankings are on swimmers’ performances at level 1 meets between the qualification window, typically between March and May.
