Grimsby Aquatics pull some Cracking Performances in Leeds

Grimsby Aquatics Swim Team came home with an amazing 13 gold trophies after a fantastic weekend at the City of Leeds Swimming Club Christmas Cracker Gala on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December.

Oliver Duckworth (14) won 4 gold trophies in 100 backstroke and 100, 200 and 400m freestyle events.  Joe Basdeo-Taylor (14) won gold in the 400m Individual Medley, he also won silver trophies in 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly and bronze in 100m butterfly.  George Barber (15) won 3 golds in 200 & 400m freestyle & 200m butterfly he also took silver in 200m backstroke and bronze in 100m butterfly.

10 year olds Sarah Hedges and Callum Nurse both came home with 2 gold trophies, Callum won the 50 & 100m breaststroke and took 4th in the 200m event and Sarah won the 200m Breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley and took bronze in her debut at 400m freestyle.

Jack Wood (12) won gold in 50m breaststroke, bronze in 200m Individual Medley and secured 4th place in 400m IM & 100m breaststroke.  13 year old Harvey Harris dominated his breaststroke events winning silver in 50m and securing 4th place in 100m and 5th in 200m.

In the 9-year old category Matilda Newson won silver in 50m breaststroke and took 5th place in the 100m event.  Tilly also secured 5th place in 50m freestyle.  Lucy Wood won bronze in 50m breaststroke and 4th in the 200m event, she was also 4th place in 50 butterfly.  Cecelia Linton came 4th in 100 breaststroke and 5th 100 back.  .  Monty Gale came 5th in 100m breaststroke.

Swimming for the first time in a long course pool, Henrietta Richardson-Selby (10) secured an impressive 4th place in the 50 & 100m Breaststroke events.  10 year old team mate Lily Stratton secured 4th place in 100m butterfly.

Olivia Woods (15) won silver in 200m breaststroke and came 4th in 400m freestyle, securing new PBs in both events.  Isabel Newson (14) came 5th in 100m backstroke in a new personal best time.  Lucy Woodliffe (13) secured 4th in 400m freestyle.  Beth Bradley (13) came 5th in 200 fly.

In the 12 year old group, Eve Linton secured 4th place in 200m breaststroke, knocking over 13 seconds off her PB and came 5th in the 100m event.  Evie Barber took 8th place in 400m freestyle in an impressive 5.00.56 minutes knocking over 20 seconds off her PB.  Bethany Crump was delighted with personal bests in 100 backstroke, 100 & 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Alex Woods (13) secured 4th place in 100m freestyle taking 7 seconds off his personal best.  Joseph Ward (12) came 5th in 400m freestyle and 6th in 400m IM knocking 10 seconds off his personal best.  Oscar Blanchard (11) came 5th in 200m butterfly and 6th the 100m event.

Head Coach Mark Sheldrick was delighted with the swimmers’ performance he said ‘there were 163 personal bests out of 199 swims over the weekend’, he added ‘we now have 27 swimmers achieving the qualification times they need for the Yorkshire County Championships being held in February.’
